Sheriff Wilz “tips” off Columbia County
May 6, 2024
Justin began a new full-time job as an armed securit officer at Star Protection & Patrol. While he was working his 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. shift, Justin’s Poynette Police Chief, Chief Rogge, contacted him via phone. He informed Justin that Sheriff Tim Wilz had just contacted the Columbia County Sheriff, after Justin was already working for the Poynette PD, to “tip them off” that he had just hired a Brady cop. The Columbia County Sheriff in return contacted the Columbia County DA and the DA in turn contacted Chief Rogge asking him why he didn’t do a background check on Justin. Chief Rogge explained to the Columbia DA the positive results their Lieutenant obtained from Capt. Kyle Wiskirchen and Waupaca County DA Kat Turner while doing the background check. Chief Rogge expressed to Justin that he was upset about Sheriff Wilz doing that and how contacting the Columbia County Sheriff was such a wrong thing for him to do, especially since Chief Rogge and Lt. Nate Duell had completed a background check on Justin prior to hiring him.
Chief Rogge contacted Sheriff Wilz directly via phone and asked him for an explanation on why he contacted the Columbia County Sheriff with this information. (This phone call was recorded and Justin is in the process of getting a copy of it from the Poynette Police Department). Sheriff Wilz said he “didn’t really understand the whole Brady violation thing.” He did tell Justin’s Chief that if he could return to the Waupaca Sheriff’s Office, he would provide him with “what he needed to see”.
It is noted that this took place THREE months after I had resigned from the Waupaca Sheriff’s Office. Why would Sheriff Wilz take it upon himself at that time to “tip” them off??
