Evidence Room Manager
While employed as a full-time Police Officer with the Weyauwega Police Department, I was given the responsibility of taking care of the evidence room. This is such an incredible responsibility, as the department can be held liable for anything done improperly or incorrectly. There are very strict guidelines and policies in place for when it comes to properly handling & storing evidence and property.
I took over control of the evidence room in 2016 and I immediately performed an “overhaul” of it. There were things that weren’t being done up to standard and in some cases, unsafe and illegal. I brought the entire evidence room up to code and also freshened up the department’s evidence policy and procedures - protecting the department from unwanted audits and possibly even hefty fines. I also changed our documentation procedure from writing on old fashioned evidence cards and storing important paperwork in filing cabinets - to using a computer CAD system to securely document and store all of the evidence room files.
