Gonzalez Fatality Timeline

I responded to a wrong way driving complaint on Highway 10. The wrong way vehicle ultimately crashed head on into another vehicle, killing 4 beautiful souls - Daniel, Fabian, Lilian, and Daniela. Please click here for full details regarding this incident, and changes made thus far.

The suspect, Scott Farmer, plead no contest and is subsequently found guilty on an OWI (5th or 6th) charge and 4 counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. He remained in custody pending a sentencing hearing.

Scott Farmer is sentenced to 37.5 years in prison for the above listed charges. During this sentencing hearing, the defense attorney for Scott Farmer brought up a story that had just been published in the Waupaca County Post - referencing the changes that we pushed for toward better signage on Highway 10. The defense tried to use this story as a mitigating factor, in hopes for Farmer to get a lighter sentence. The Honorable Judge Raymond Huber didn’t take any of it into account.

However, during DA Kat Turner’s closing remarks, she threw me under the bus by making undermining comments about my integrity and the integrity of the story in the Waupaca County Post. She argued that the newspaper story was “riddled” with mistruths - which later is proven to be a complete LIE.

I am notified by my Poynette Police Chief about the Brady notification memo that DA Turner had made reference an “illegal” traffic stop I had conducted back in July of 2023. I document everything into an “in the matter of” and forward it off. I also received an email from former DA Veronica Isherwood, who signed the criminal complaint for this case. Click here for further details regarding this incident.

My Chief (not I) receives an email response back from DA Turner in regards to the Gonzalez fatality - NOT the “illegal” traffic stop that was in question here. It includes a total of eleven items that were either inaccurate, incorrect, or simply was her own opinion. My Chief and I found documentation that proves this. I documented it into an “in the matter of” and also save this documentation as “attachments”. Please see them below.

As you can see in attachments 4 and 6 - the record is made rather clear. Not only is it made clear, but it also provides information from the stepfather himself - and the DRE Coordinator himself, debunking everything DA Turner had stated. Furthermore, it goes into detail on how the stepfather was treated so horribly by DA Turner - yelling at him, blaming him, and demeaning him. It truly is sick.

Not only were we able to provide documentation that DA Turner intentionally lied, but we also forwarded all of this information to the Office of Lawyer Regulation with the Wisconsin Supreme Court, who is looking into this. The Outagamie County DA’s Office also completed an independent review of the information regarding these claims, and they found NO issues of dishonesty on my part. You can read these findings here:

Since DA Turner was still refusing to provide me with a legally requested open record (the email from Steve Krejci) - I decided to file a petition for writ of mandamus. A writ of mandamus is a legal filing where I ask the court to review a potential open record law violation. If indeed the law was violated, the court can order the violator to release the record(s) in question. They can also order punitive damages. This was filed with the Waupaca County Clerk of Courts today.
