Email from WPSO to DRE Coordinator in Milwaukee
October 15, 2024
Sgt. Pedersen, with the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, sent an email to Steve Krejci, the State DRE Coordinator, asking if someone who had previously been on the Brady list, was still allowed to be a DRE, because of the integrity of the program. She stated that her administration was wondering if Justin was still a DRE. She went on to say that she was concerned about Justin making comments that he was still DRE and putting their Agency in a “bad spot”.
Steve replied that he had no knowledge of Justin being on the Brady list, so Justin was still a DRE. Steve knew that Justin was let go, and was later hired by the Poynette PD, but that he did not know details. Steve explained that when he talked to Justin in February at the WTSOA (Wisconsin Traffic Safety Officers Association) conference, he thought he remembered Justin saying it was because of a disagreement he had with his supervisors. He didn’t go into detail or ask Sgt. Pedersen questions because he didn’t know what the employee privacy rights issues all entailed.
Sgt. Pedersen said she also wasn’t sure what Steve could or could not ask.

In conclusion - why in the world does it matter to Sheriff Wilz and his administration whether I’m still a DRE or not?? I haven’t been employed by Waupaca for about 8 months at this time - so with me still being a DRE for another agency, this has NOTHING to do with them. Why would they send an email regarding this??
